Tasks You Can Expect During a Professional Furnace Inspection

• Thermostat calibration. The technician will verify your thermostat readings are correct, and run your system through a few cycles to make sure it’s working properly. The thermostat will be calibrated if necessary.
  
  
• Electrical connections. He will thoroughly inspect electrical wires and connections, looking for evidence of aging or wear. Connections will be tightened/replaced if needed.
  
  
• Mechanical parts. Mechanical components will be inspected for signs of wear and tear and replaced as necessary. They also will be lubricated to reduce friction for more efficient function.
  
  
• Fuel burners. The burners will be cleaned, and the technician will verify the flame burns cleanly and consistently.
  
  
• Heat exchanger. A rusted, cracked or corroded heat exchanger can result in carbon monoxide leakage, resulting in potential CO poisoning.
  
  
• Airflow. All vents and air-return grilles should be inspected for obstructions and to verify the system has adequate airflow. Airflow issues can result in the use of as much as 15 percent more energy.
  
  
• Blower components. To take care of the aforementioned airflow, the technician also will inspect, clean and adjust the blower components.
  
  
• Filter changes. If needed, your air filter will be changed. This is an easy DIY furnace maintenance task that should be done as per the manufacturer’s instructions to improve airflow and enhance indoor air quality. If you are prone to allergies, you should change your filter as often as once a month.
