Preparing Your HVAC System

for a Worry-Free Vacation

If you’re planning a vacation, we have a few tips to prepare your HVAC system.

Change the Thermostat Temperature Setting
Whether it’s summer or winter, your HVAC system doesn’t need to keep an empty house comfortable. Raising or lowering the thermostat temperature setting, depending on the season, will save you a lot of money on your energy bills.

While you’re away during the summer months, keep the thermostat set at 80-85 degrees. For the winter months (even a ski weekend), keep the thermostat set at 60-62 degrees. If your thermostat is programmable, set it to change to a more comfortable temperature on the day you return from your trip.

Air Filter Efficiency
While you are away, your heating/cooling system will be running. Make sure you clean or replace the air filter before leaving on your trip. Doing so, will help prevent system malfunctions.

Storms & Electrical Surges
Summer and winter storms can cause a power outage or surge which could damage your HVAC system. Installing a surge protector for the system could prevent damage due to an outage.

HVAC System Maintenance
Maintaining your HVAC system improves its performance and increases its life. Before an extended trip, Tri-County Aire will ensure your system’s coils are clean, it has adequate refrigerant and that it is operating properly.

Follow these simple tips to keep your HVAC system running smoothly while you enjoy your time away. Schedule and appointment today to get your HVAC system serviced.
